Fixing Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Connection Problems

If your Xbox 360 Wireless Controller disconnects frequently or cannot connect to the Xbox 360 console
then these kind of connection problems could possibly be caused by one or more of the following factors:

•You might have weak batteries or a weak Xbox 360 RechargeableXbox 360 Wireless Controller Battery Pack
•There may well be interference from an additional wireless device, such as a microwave oven, a cordless phone, or a wireless router
•A metallic object is located in between the console and the wireless controller, such as a shelve or doors on a cabinet.
•May sound obvious but make sure there are not already four controllers connected to the console.

THINGS TO TRY

1: As with most things powering off your console and waiting a minute before turning it on again could be a simple fix.
If that doesn’t fix the controller problem then :

2: Replace the batteries or the Rechargeable Battery Pack
Insert new AA batteries, or if you have one, attach a fully charged Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack to your controller.

If you have an Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack then :

Remove the battery pack and then reattach it to your controller.
Press and hold the Xbox Guide button. In the top left area of the Xbox Guide button a battery meter shows the current level of battery strength. Recharge the battery pack if the level is low.

If you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge kit :

Make certain the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack is correctly connected to your controller and plugged into one of your console’s USB ports. If you check both of those and you are still having the problem then :

Plug the charge cable into each USB port on the console, one by one. There are two USB ports on the front of the console and one on the back. In the event that the controller works in one USB port but not another, try out another accessory in the USB port that did not work with the controller. In the event that the USB port does not operate with any accessory, your Xbox 360 console might need to be repaired.

Turn off vibration feedback (rumbling) on the controller. If perhaps you play games with feedback when charging, it takes much longer for the controller to charge and may well drain the battery pack quicker than it can recharge. Here is how to turn vibration off :

Press the Xbox Guide button on the controller.
In the Settings area select Preferences.
Select Vibration.
Select Enable Vibration to clear the checkbox.

In case your Xbox 360 wireless controller is still not working get rid of objects between the controller and the console. The controller will work within just 10 meters of your console. Although if you have objects located in between the controller and the console then this might shrink this range. Objects that utilize wireless technology (for instance, a cordless phone) can interfere with your wireless controller. Get rid of objects or wireless devices that might be causing the grief. Things which can result in problems include microwave ovens, cordless phones and wireless routers.

Hopefully one of the above will get your Xbox 360 wireless controller up and running again.
